LIBRARY JOURNAL Sheard provides realistic details of hospital routine and
budget-cutting politics. Other bonuses are polished prose and elements of warmth and
humor. Strongly recommended for most mystery collections.
Rocky Mountain News If your pulse quickens for ER on Thursday nights, you'll want a
dose of Timothy Sheard's medicine in Some Cuts Never Heal. The well-meaning,
hard-working hospital folks will warm your heart, while the cold realities of modern
medical care will raise your blood pressure and keep you turning the pages.
Hartford Courant This is a really good yarn, if that isn't too old-fashioned a phrase.
Mysteries Galore Timothy Sheard provides a delightful hospital investigative tale that
grips readers from the moment that Dr. Singh and his team apply CPR, but fail.
A Critical Mystery Tour Timothy Sheard takes his crime into the not so antiseptic wards
and ICUs of a hospital where a surgeon can be a medical maniac and a maintenance
man can be the investigator/hero.

FREE WORKSHOP AT CUNY
Students at CUNY/Kingsborough loved reading A Race Against Death in their remedial
English course. They identified with the working class characters, and they enjoyed the
no-nonsense prose style and the suspenseful chapters.
Because they used my book in class, I provided the students with a free writing
workshop. Working in groups, the students wrote short stories that began with a common
opening. Each group composed a compelling, imaginative and rewarding story. They were
outstanding. Amazing! Inspirational.
After they read their story I helped the students determine what kind of tale they had
written: whether it was tragic or romantic; whether it had a simple resolution or a complex
one; whether the main character changed or stayed the same, etc. Some stories were rich
with dialogue; some had unexpected twists and surprises; some gave the dark character
redemption, while others punished for his sins. I then suggested how they could rewrite the
story to craft a satisfying story. It was an exciting and satisfying afternoon.
